The United States and Saudi Arabia on Wednesday signed a civil nuclear cooperation agreement that could pave the way for the kingdom to develop uranium enrichment capabilities for its civilian nuclear programme.

Deal is expected to last 30 years, with US firms helping the kingdom develop a civil nuclear industry.

The U.S. administration released scant details of the deal, but the framework paves the way for the building of a uranium enrichment facility in Saudi Arabia.
