The Republic of Malawi has commenced the emergency mass evacuation of its citizens fleeing coordinated and targeted anti-migrant violence in South Africa against foreign nationals especially Africans. The Malawian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation confirmed on Monday that a tightly secured convoy of eight buses loaded with 645 traumatised Malawian nationals had officially departed South African territory.

Efforts are underway to repatriate thousands of Malawian nationals in Durban, as local authorities respond to rising tensions and health concerns among displaced individuals.
