Iran and Israel said on Monday they had halted attacks on each other after an appeal from US President Trump that they immediately “stop ‘shooting’”, though Tehran said it would resume strikes if Israel continued to hit Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Monday’s strikes by both Iran and Israel are the most serious escalation in the conflict since the ceasefire between the U.S.-Israel side and Iran went into effect in April.

Iran’s missile barrage against Israel Sunday was in response to Tel Aviv hitting Beirut, the Lebanon capital.

President Donald Trump said that Israel and Iran are negotiating a ceasefire as violence in the Middle East once again escalated.
