President Donald Trump said that Israel and Iran are once again negotiating a ceasefire as violence in the Middle East escalated over the weekend.
Iran launched a missile strike against Israel Sunday morning in retaliation for Israel’s own attacks against Hezbollah targets in Lebanon earlier in the weekend. Israel responded again Monday morning with a strike against an Iranian petrochemical site, the country’s first direct strikes against Iran since early April.
“Both sides, Israel and Iran, are looking to do an immediate CEASEFIRE! Final negotiations on “Peace” are proceeding, subject to ignorance or stupidity getting in its way,” the president wrote on Truth Social. “The Blockade will remain in place, and in full force and effect, until a “Final Deal” is reached. Things should move quickly. Thank you for your attention to this matter!.”
Earlier Monday morning, Trump wrote that “Israel and Iran must immediately stop ‘shooting.'”
Trump has spent recent days and weeks clinging to hopes of negotiating a diplomatic end to the Iran war, despite negotiators failing to make substantive progress in the ongoing talks and steadily increasing violence from all involved parties.
