US President Donald Trump on Monday said that Israel and Iran were “looking to do an immediate ceasefire,” as renewed fighting between the two countries raised fears of a wider regional war.

Monday’s strikes by both Iran and Israel are the most serious escalation in the conflict since the ceasefire between the U.S.-Israel side and Iran went into effect in April.

It is now 100 days since the US and Israel launched attacks on Iran and it was marked by an escalation of violence in the region.
