The risk assessment came as the leader of the WHO team in Congo said the outbreak, which has led to over 130 suspected deaths, could last at least another two months as aid efforts intensified to stem the spread.

More than 300 suspected cases and 88 deaths have been reported. The outbreak is caused by the rare Bundibugyo virus, which has no approved treatments or vaccines.

The WHO said the outbreak does not meet the criteria of a pandemic emergency but that countries sharing land borders with the DRC are at high risk of further spread.
