WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has declared the Ebola disease outbreak in Congo and Uganda a public health emergency of international concern after more than 300 suspected cases and 88 deaths.

Some 88 people have died from the highly contagious haemorrhagic fever in the DR Congo, with one death in Uganda, and at least 336 suspected cases.

WHO declared the Bundibugyo Ebola outbreak a PHEIC just 48 hours after confirmation, the fastest such designation in history. What drove the decision.
