Volvo designed the 50-ton class EC500 Electric to deliver the same performance as the diesel-powered EC500 the brand’s customers know and love – but saying that is one thing. Proving it? That’s another thing, entirely.
The new EC500 Electric is significantly bigger than the company’s 30-ton EC230 Electric, and it’s so new that it’s not even in production yet. Not really, anyway – but the first pre-production units aren’t just ready, they’re doing real work today. And, by testing the machine in live working environments, Volvo says it will be able to gather detailed feedback on the excavator’s behavior, performance, and operator experience as it makes its way towards production and more practical job site integration.
“This collaborative approach ensures that the machine is developed not only around technical considerations,” reads the Volvo press copy, “but around the day-to-day requirements of customers working in some of the most demanding applications.”
