A wildfire broke out Friday afternoon in a forested area near Partheni, in Aliveri on the Greek island of Evia.
The fire department initially deployed 34 firefighters, a specialized forest-fire unit, volunteers and 12 vehicles. The force was later increased to 40 firefighters.
Six firefighting aircraft and two helicopters, including one coordinating the aerial operation, were also deployed. The municipality provided water tankers. A drone equipped with thermal and optical cameras monitored the fire.
Authorities issued a 112 emergency alert urging residents to remain ready and follow instructions.
