Fox News’ Bret Baier immediately fawned over President Donald Trump’s nearly two-hour speech at the Republican midterm convention on Wednesday night, praising it as a “barn-buster.” “Listen, Sean, you know this president better than most, but this is him energized,” Baier told his Fox News colleague, Sean Hannity, following the president’s speech. “This is him feeding off this crowd, this is — he just loves this element, and let’s remind everybody this guy is 80 years old. He just gives this barn-buster speech.” Trump partially used his long-winded address to plead with his party base to vote in the midterms as if he were on the ballot, despite his sinking approval ratings.According to Baier, the president “went all over the place.” “We got the speech written out. There wasn’t a lot. There were a lot of fill-in-the-blanks,” he told Hannity.“I really think the best line was, ‘On election night, we’re going to prove that America does not belong to those who hate it. America belongs to those who love it,’ and that is the biggest cheer they got from this crowd,” he continued.The most notable moment in Trump’s ramble was promising every American citizen $5,000 if Republicans won the midterms, which Baier admitted he raised his eyebrows at.The president’s promise has already sparked some criticism and questioning, especially since he made similar claims before. Baier had even pressed Vice President JD Vance over Trump’s $5,000 promise immediately after the speech, preemptively predicting criticism that “the president is bribing voters to vote for Republicans to take over the House.”Baier: $5000 for every adult citizen, that's about $1.3 trillion.
