The Ministry of Education will launch a national study within the next three months to evaluate reforms introduced since 2019 across all schooling levels. Funding for the €539,400 initiative will be open to public universities and related institutions.
Using measurable tools, the study will gauge how effectively Greek schools foster essential 21st-century skills and address poor PISA scores. Key reforms under review include skills labs – mandatory courses focusing on active learning, teamwork, and topics like consent –alongside new curricula, two-year preschool, and education counselors.
A ministry official noted no unified system currently measures these outcomes, adding, “The study will fill this gap, creating an evaluation framework that connects educational policies with actual learning outcomes.” Crucially, the research will examine if programs are genuinely effective or merely executed bureaucratically, addressing concerns over teacher training and course assignments given solely to fulfill mandatory teaching hours.
