Apple Inc.’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) latest iPhone lineup reveals a bigger strategy beyond new hardware: the company is steadily bringing critical components in-house, reducing its dependence on outside suppliers such as Qualcomm Inc. (NASDAQ:QCOM).

Apple Pushes Deeper Into In-House Modems

Apple’s technical specifications list its new C2 cellular modem for the iPhone 18 Pro, while the U.S. specifications for the iPhone 18 Pro Max do not mention the C2.

The tech giant has not explained the difference and it remains unclear which Qualcomm modem is inside the Pro Max. The split could also stem from supply constraints, particularly because Apple is using C2 across the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone Duo.

The C2 supports sub-6GHz and mmWave 5G in the U.S. Apple says it delivers AI-powered improvements to cellular quality and reliability, faster uploads than the C1X and 15% lower energy consumption.
