APM said its intervention and demand for accountability eventually compelled Eko Power to organise a town-hall meeting with residents.
The Ajegunle Peoples Movement (APM) has demanded the immediate reconnection of Ibitoye Community in Ajeromi-Ifelodun Local Government Area of Lagos State, accusing the Eko Power Distribution Company (Eko Disco) of exploitative billing practices and using disconnection to intimidate residents demanding accountability.
The group made the demand in a statement signed by its Secretary, Comrade Babatunde Yusuf, on Tuesday, in which it condemned what it described as the “unjust disconnection” of the community by the electricity distribution company.
APM said the disconnection followed the community’s resistance to what it described as “outrageous estimated and multiple electricity bills (in a single month)” allegedly imposed by Eko Disco, now Eko Power, since August 2024.
According to the group, the bills were imposed “without adequate explanation, transparency, consultation or justification,” prompting residents to demand clarification from the electricity company.
