Residents of FESTAC Town in the Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos State have issued a 48-hour ultimatum to the Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) to restore electricity supply to the community or face mass action, accusing the company of subjecting thousands of residents to prolonged blackout, estimated billing, and economic hardship.
The residents, under the platform of TakeBackFestacAmuwo, issued the ultimatum on Tuesday after staging a protest at the EKEDC headquarters in Marina, Lagos, where they demanded urgent intervention over what they described as the collapse of power supply in the estate.
Carrying placards with messages demanding improved electricity supply and an end to estimated billing, the protesters said FESTAC, once regarded as one of Lagos’ model estates, had been plunged into darkness for more than eight months, crippling businesses and affecting residents’ quality of life.
The group’s President and Convener, Comrade Valentine Uduebor, said the protest was a collective expression of frustration after repeated appeals and assurances from EKEDC failed to yield results.
