Atiku Abubakar, former vice president and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the 2027 election, has dismissed fresh calls for his investigation over alleged financial crimes, describing the allegations as recycled claims being revived for political purposes.
Atiku, in a statement issued on Tuesday by Phrank Shaibu, his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, challenged Ntufam Hilliard Eta, former National Vice Chairman (South-South) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), to produce fresh and credible evidence rather than rely on what he described as old allegations.
Eta had earlier on Tuesday called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and other law-enforcement agencies to investigate petitions and allegations of financial crimes involving Atiku.
Eta made the demand at a press conference at the APC national secretariat in Abuja, insisting that political considerations must give way to accountability, irrespective of the political status of anyone involved.
Eta, a former member of the APC National Working Committee (NWC), said, “I am calling on the appropriate law-enforcement and anti-corruption authorities to fully investigate the allegations and petitions concerning former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and, where the evidence establishes criminal offences, prosecute him in accordance with Nigerian law.”
