A light aircraft that crashed at the intersection of New Road and Old Pretoria Main Road in Glen Austin, Midrand, is being towed away on a truck.
The Accidents and Incidents Investigations Division (AIID) has launched an investigation after a light aircraft crashed at Grand Central Airport in Midrand on Tuesday afternoon, leaving one of the two occupants injured.
According to the AIID, the aircraft involved was a Cessna 172, registration ZS-FNH, which was conducting what is understood to have been an hour-building flight at the time of the accident.
The aircraft crashed into the business park in the area and caused damage to the palisade fencing.
Preliminary information indicates that the pilot reported an engine failure before attempting a forced landing approximately 250 metres west of the threshold of Runway 17 at Grand Central Airport.
