The plane crashed and burst into flames while attempting to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San DiegoTwo people were killed after a Cessna Skyhawk plane crashed and burst into flames while attempting to land at Montgomery-Gibbs Executive Airport in San Diego on Monday.Footage recorded after the crash shows the small white plane sitting on the airport taxiway with a severe fire concentrated around the aircraft’s rear area, with flames producing a dense plume of black smoke that stretches across the taxiway.The aircraft itself appears to remain largely intact, while the area around the rear of the plane is heavily engulfed in flames.The aircraft reportedly plunged into the runway at the airport, with eyewitnesses capturing footage of the crash and the intense fire that followed. Witnesses said the flames were so severe that they could not get close to the aircraft.Mauricio Godinez and Melizza Cardiel Godinez were at a nearby hangar when they heard the plane hit the runway. Speaking to ABC 10, Godinez recalled: “We heard this loud boom. She peeks out, she tells me a plane crashed”.“I peek outside, and yes, a plane definitely crashed”.Cardiel said the intensity of the fire prevented them from approaching the aircraft.“The flames was just too much”, Cardiel recalled.“If we would have gotten in there, we would have gotten burned ourselves.”Investigators from the national transportation safety board and the federal aviation administration examined the crash site on Tuesday to determine what caused the accident, according to the New York Post.An initial FAA report said the aircraft crashed while the pilot was attempting to land. The plane's left wing dipped before it “appeared to stall and spun into the ground”, according to the report obtained by ABC 10.Surveillance footage from earlier showed the aircraft appearing to gain elevation before suddenly diving towards the ground at the airport early Monday evening, ABC 10 reported.The identities of the two people killed in the crash have not yet been released.The crash occurred two days after another plane crash in Fresno that killed all four people on board.
