Light aircraft crashes in Midrand as secondary collision worsens traffic

Emergency services responded to an incident after a light aircraft crashed in Midrand.

A light-aircraft crashed at the intersection of New Road and Old Pretoria Main Road (R101) in Glen Austin, Midrand, yesterday causing severe traffic disruptions.

The Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) said Emergency Management Services (EMS) were on the scene attending to the aircraft crash when a secondary motor vehicle accident occurred at the same location, further complicating rescue efforts and causing significant traffic congestion.

JMPD spokesperson Superintendent Xolani Fihla said officers were dispatched to assist with traffic management, secure the scene and implement road diversions while emergency responders continued their operations.
