International Literacy Day was observed at the District Institute of Education and Training (DIET), Bheemunipatnam on Tuesday. The District Adult Education Department organised an awareness rally and elocution competitions.District Education Officer N. Prem Kumar, who was the chief guest said: “Literacy provides the foundation for individual and social development.” He stressed the importance of continuous learning and urged teachers and student-teachers to play a key role in promoting literacy.Additional Project Coordinator (APC) J. Chandrasekhar stressed the need for sustained awareness programmes to encourage adults to pursue education. In-charge principal Sunitha said helping adults who lacked literacy skills was a collective social responsibility. Prizes were presented to winners of the elocution competitions.
