Students of Government High School and Panchayat Union Primary School at Posampatti in Andhanallur block, Tiruchi, on Tuesday observed World Literacy Day by writing their names in Tamil-Brahmi, an ancient form of Tamil script, on pottery sherds.Tamil-Brahmi dates back more than 2,500 years.The activity was organised to familiarise students with ancient Tamil writing system and to highlight the archaeological significance of pottery sherds bearing Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions.The Tamil-Brahmi inscriptions are among the earliest forms of Tamil writing and have been found predominantly on ancient pottery sherds unearthed during archaeological excavations. Such discoveries have been reported at several archaeological sites, including excavations associated with ancient Egyptian civilisation and, more recently, Keezhadi, said S.
