ASML, the Dutch company that holds a global monopoly on the machines needed to make cutting-edge semiconductors, officially started construction on a massive new campus near Eindhoven on September 7, 2026. The facility at Brainport Industries Campus Noord is designed to eventually house up to 20,000 employees.
The expansion reflects a straightforward reality: ASML is running out of room. Its existing headquarters in Veldhoven can no longer keep pace with the surging global demand for its Extreme Ultraviolet lithography systems, the bus-sized machines that chip giants like TSMC and Samsung need to print the tiniest transistors on silicon wafers.
What the new campus looks like on paper
The BIC Noord site spans approximately 100 hectares. When completed, it will contain 428,000 square meters of cleanrooms and offices. The first wave of around 5,000 employees is expected to move in by early 2028, with the full 20,000-person capacity coming over the longer term.
Municipal and provincial authorities granted zoning and environmental permits back in March 2026. Preparatory work, including land clearing and ecological preservation measures, kicked off shortly afterward. Site acquisition for over 15 hectares of land cost roughly €13.6 million, though the full price tag for the project has climbed well beyond that initial outlay.
