Eskom has reported a second consecutive annual profit, with after-tax earnings rising to R30.3 billion as the power utility continues its turnaround and improves operational performance.

Eskom faces an almost R1.42 billion interest bill over just two days next week, even as it substantially reduces its debt and returns to profitability.

The power utility will pay R123.85 million in interest on Monday, 14 September, followed by R1.295 billion the following day.

The payments come shortly after Eskom reported its second consecutive annual profit and a further reduction in its borrowings.

During the year to March, Eskom paid R30 billion in interest, while total debt servicing, including repayments, amounted to R46.8 billion.
