Eskom has reported a second consecutive annual profit, with after-tax earnings rising to R30.3 billion as the power utility continues its turnaround and improves operational performance.
Power utility Eskom has made a profit for a second consecutive year, with its after-tax earnings more than doubling to R30.3 billion in the financial year ended March 2026.
This was more than double the R14 billion profit recorded in the previous financial year, as improved power station performance, lower diesel use and tighter cost controls helped strengthen the utility’s financial position.
Chairman Mteto Nyati said the profit was the result of improved operations and cost discipline.
“Eskom’s purpose is to power growth sustainably. That means holding two mandates at once: a commercial duty to run a financially sound business, and a developmental duty to keep South Africa connected, growing and included. Profit is not the opposite of that public purpose. It is what makes the purpose possible,” Nyati said.
