Melvin Peters
AT JUST six years old, Melvin Peters sat down at a piano in his home and began what would become a lifelong relationship with music.
What started as a young boy’s fascination with the sound of the piano gradually grew into a career spanning jazz performances, compositions, teaching, theatre, and church music.
Now 63, the Reservoir Hills resident is an accomplished professional musician, former university lecturer, jazz pianist, composer, and church organist whose career has taken him from Durban stages to international platforms.
Most recently, Peters served as music director and keyboard player for actor and former television presenter Pat Pillai’s stage production My Cape Town, helping shape the sound of a production that brought together music and storytelling.
