Adewole Adebayo, presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has proposed a N200-per-litre price ceiling for petrol, cooking gas and aviation fuel if elected president in 2027.
Adebayo said the proposed pricing regime would be introduced within 12 months of taking office, with the plan anchored on reviving Nigeria’s existing refineries and supporting the development of modular refining capacity.
Speaking in Abuja during the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Personality Interview Series on Sunday, the SDP candidate said Nigeria should take advantage of its crude oil resources and existing refining infrastructure instead of relying heavily on imported petroleum products.
He argued that the age of Nigeria’s refineries should not prevent them from being rehabilitated, pointing to facilities in the United States that have remained operational for more than a century.
“SDP will pick cooking gas, petrol and Jet A1; those three, we will put them under a regime where the price does not go past N200,” he said.
