During his visit to Puravilai kaani tribal hamlet on Saturday, Kanniyakumari Collector M. Prathap said that immediate steps would be taken to address the long-pending demands of the residents.Mr. Prathap received several petitions from the villagers and interacted with them to understand their grievances, particularly those concerning basic infrastructure and essential services. The residents sought for road connectivity, solar power facilities, drinking water supply, uninterrupted electricity supply and other basic amenities.Addressing the gathering, the Collector said Kanniyakumari district was endowed with rich natural resources and was home to a large number of tribal communities. He said steps have been initiated to improve the livelihood and employment opportunities of tribal women through Self Help Groups (SHGs).As part of the initiative, of ₹4 lakh has been provided to women SHG in the Puravilai region, while a loan of ₹2 lakh has been provided to women SHG in Villusamimalai through the Rural Development Agency, he added.Mr. Prathap also said necessary measures would be taken to establish a part-time fair price shop at Puravilai to facilitate easier access to residents.Later, the Collector visited Valiyalai in Pechiparai panchayat and interacted with residents to understand their requirements and local issues.
