The new battery-electric articulated buses from Yutong will primarily operate in the western part of Thessaloniki, specifically on routes X1, 12, 27 and 32. With the integration of the fleet into the winter timetable at the beginning of this month, OASTH has also hired 170 additional drivers and announced plans to introduce new routes and increase service frequency. OASTH now has around 160 electric buses in operation. A previous procurement round took place in 2024 – back then, Thessaloniki and Athens also relied on Yutong buses in their joint procurement initiative.
The new battery-electric articulated buses can accommodate up to 130 passengers and are equipped with air conditioning, ventilation systems and tilt-and-turn windows. Their range is stated to be 300 kilometres. The model designation has not been disclosed by the authorities, but it is likely to be the Yutong U18, which, depending on the chosen battery option, offers between 528 and 704 kWh of battery capacity.
