Onion supply at subsidised price for family cardholders initiated in Coimbatore, Tiruppur districts

Supply of onions to family cardholders at subsidised price of ₹35 per kg was inaugurated on Thursday at the Singanallur Consumer Cooperative Store in Coimbatore by District Collector Pavankumar G. Giriyappanavar.Coimbatore district has received an allocation of 85 metric tonnes for distribution through 650 urban fair price shops, the Collector said.This measure of the State government comes in the wake of spurt in the price of onions in the open market in the range of ₹55 to ₹60 per kg.In Tiruppur district, 25 metric tonnes of onions will be sold through 369 urban fair price shops operated by the Cooperation Department.
