The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Tuesday arrested an Assistant Engineer (AE) of the Tamil Nadu Power Distribution Corporation limited (TNPDCL) for demanding bribes to provide a power connection on Tuesday. A senior official of the DVAC said J. Sivaselvan, a resident of Samiyar Thottam in Tambaram West, had applied for a single phase power connection in his house. He had paid the fees, but it was rejected by Chandran, AE of the Kadaperi section office. When Sivaselvan approached the TNPDCL official, he was instructed to apply for an upgrade of the power connection and was asked to pay a bribe of ₹10,000.A case was registered against the official based on the complaint filed by Sivaselvan to the DVAC.Sivaselvan was told to hand over the bribe at a car parking lot of a jewellery showroom on GST Road. As the TNPDCL official got down from his car and received the bribe money, a team of DVAC officials, led by Inspector V. Selvi, arrested him. They also seized ₹12,540 from him.
