The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) officers on Monday arrested an assistant attached to the Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) headquarters after he was caught accepting a bribe of ₹50,000 from a suspended employee for processing his reinstatement order.According to the DVAC, Balasubramanian was an assistant engineer in Besant Nagar. On September 20, 2023, he was trapped while receiving a bribe of ₹10,000, and the case is under investigation. In the meantime, his suspension order was revoked by the Superintending Engineer, Adyar, on June 12, but the posting order was to be issued by the Chief Engineer (Personnel), Anna Salai, Chennai.To issue the posting order, Balaji, Assistant, Disciplinary Proceedings Section, demanded a bribe of ₹1.3 lakh from Balasubramanian. Balaji also demanded an advance payment of ₹50,000. In response, Balasubramanian lodged a complaint with the DVAC, which initiated trap proceedings.At the Tangedco Headquarters on Anna Salai on Monday, Balaji received the bribe money from Balasubramanian and was arrested by the DVAC officials.
