MANILA, Philippines – Developing nations like Nepal and the Philippines bear the brunt of climate change impacts even though they contribute the least to global greenhouse gas emissions.
Nepal is suffering from the debris flow and massive flood triggered by a glacier collapse in the Himalayas, and the death toll continues to rise. In the Philippines, millions have had to grapple with flooded roads and homes due to continuous rain in recent weeks.
“We contribute a negligible share of global emissions, yet we sit downstream of some of the fastest-warming glacial systems on Earth,” Sumnima Udas, a member of the Nepal parliament, was quoted as saying in a The New Yorker report.
