Five men were arrested for allegedly abducting a 23-year-old man in a tempo traveller, threatening him with a knife and forcing him to transfer ₹25,000 through GPay in Pazhavanthangal.The victim, Ezhumalai (23), works at a bakery on Moovarasampet Main Road in Madipakkam and stays on the same premises. On August 29, after finishing work, he was walking along Kannan Nagar Main Road to visit a temple when five men travelling in a tempo traveller intercepted him and allegedly forced him into the vehicle.The men allegedly threatened him with a knife and demanded money. When Ezhumalai told them that he had none, they allegedly forced him to contact his employer and relatives and ask them to transfer money to his mobile phone through GPay.His employer and relatives subsequently transferred ₹25,000 to his phone. The suspects allegedly took the money through GPay before dropping him off and fleeing.Based on Ezhumalai’s complaint, the Pazhavanthangal police registered a case and launched an investigation. Police arrested five suspects who have been identified as Ayyanar (23) of Perungudi, Selvam (19) of Velachery, Gokul Krishnan (24) of Taramani and two others.
