Four persons were arrested by the city police for allegedly abducting a 19-year-old youth from Koyambedu and assaulting him with wooden logs.
Police said the victim, Sasikumar, 19, a native of Srimushnam in Cuddalore district, was studying at a college in Maduravoyal since 2024. During that time, he became acquainted with a woman named Rithika alias Rithu through Instagram. The two later entered into a relationship and frequently went out together.
According to police, Rithika demanded money from Sasikumar on multiple occasions, claiming she needed funds to conduct events on Instagram. Trusting her, he reportedly gave her a total of ₹1.87 lakh in installments. Later, Sasikumar came to know that she was in a relationship with another person. When he confronted her, she allegedly dismissed him, leading to a fallout between the two.
Police said Sasikumar had given her the money from funds meant to pay his college fee. This resulted in him being unable to pay his fee and subsequently dropping out. He is currently working. When he later demanded Rithika to return the money, she allegedly refused.
On the night of April 1, a person named Appu contacted Sasikumar over the phone and told him that Rithika was ready to return the money, asking him to come near the Koyambedu bus stand. When Sasikumar reached the spot, Rithika and her associate, along with two others, arrived in a car and told him that the money was in Tambaram and asked him to get into the vehicle.
