The first turbines started feeding power to the grid after the successful completion of commissioning tests by German transmission system operator 50Hertz in coordination with the Spanish operator. Electricity is being transmitted via the OSS Jasmund offshore substation, a roughly 100-km (328,084 ft) subsea and onshore cable connection, and the new Stilow substation near Greifswald.The Ostwind 3 grid connection has a transmission capacity of 300 MW and can supply power to the equivalent of around 300,000 local homes. Its binding completion date is the end of September.The transmission link is 50Hertz’s third offshore grid connection in the sea area northeast of the island of Rügen, following Ostwind 1, which connects the Wikinger and Arkona wind farms, and Ostwind 2, serving Baltic Eagle and Arcadis Ost 1. The project is the fifth wind farm in the area northeast of Rügen.50Hertz further noted in the statement that it is also advancing the next grid connection project, Ostwind 4, for which planning and permitting are under way and major components, including cables and converters, are in production. Construction of the first high-voltage direct current (HVDC) project in the German Baltic Sea is scheduled to begin in 2027.
Windanker offshore wind plan starts feeding power to German grid
Spanish utility Iberdrola SA's (BME:IBE) Windanker offshore wind farm has started delivering power to Germany’s grid, with most of its 21 turbines now feeding electricity through the newly commissioned Ostwind 3 transmission link.
