The 22nd Vestas turbine, each with a capacity of up to 15 MW, was installed about 50 km (31 miles) north of the German island of Juist using DEME's installation vessel Norse Wind, RWE said on Monday.All 44 turbines for Nordseecluster A are expected to be installed by the end of 2026, while individual turbines are being tested and commissioned progressively. The first turbine began generating electricity and feeding power into the grid at the end of July.The second phase, Nordseecluster B, will add 900 MW through 60 Vestas turbines. Foundation production has started, with installation planned for 2027, followed by turbine installation in 2028. RWE said it plans to use the output to provide customised energy solutions to industrial customers seeking to reduce their emissions.RWE signed a power purchase agreement with Amazon.com Inc earlier this year covering a 110-MW portion from Nordseecluster B.Nordseecluster is owned 51% by RWE and 49% by Norges Bank Investment Management, with RWE responsible for construction and subsequent operation.RWE is also building the 1.4-GW Sofia offshore wind farm in the UK, the 1.1-GW Thor project in Denmark with Norges Bank Investment Management and the 795-MW OranjeWind project in the Netherlands with TotalEnergies.The projects have a combined capacity of 4.8 GW, of which RWE's share is 3.1 GW. RWE plans to expand its offshore wind capacity by a net 5 GW by 2031, it added.
RWE installs half of turbines at 660-MW Nordseecluster A
German energy company RWE AG (ETR:RWE) has installed 22 of the 44 turbines planned for the first phase of its 1.6-GW Nordseecluster offshore wind project in the German North Sea, with the 660-MW Nordseecluster A due to be fully connected to the grid in early 2027.
