Being one of Germany’s largest offshore wind farms currently in operation, will deliver green energy to major industrial and technology companies under long-term corporate power purchase agreements (PPAs). The list of power offtakers includes Amazon (350 MW), BASF (186 MW), Covestro (100 MW), Energie-Handels-Gesellschaft/REWE Group (100 MW) and Google (50 MW).Borkum Riffgrund 3 is located about 72 km (44.7 miles) off the coast of Lower Saxony, in proximity to the Borkum Riffgrund 1 and 2 wind farms. The site, which entered construction in late 2023, is equipped with 83 Siemens Gamesa SG 11.0-200 DD turbines with an estimated annual output equal to the consumption of more than 900,000 households per year. The plant was built without an offshore substation (OSS) and is linked directly to the DolWin epsilon offshore converter platform of grid operator TenneT.Borkum Riffgrund 3 was developed as part of Ørsted’s 8.1-GW construction programme, aimed to bring the company’s overall installed offshore wind capacity to over 18 GW. Its commissioning has expanded the Danish firm’s operational wind fleet in Germany to around 2.5 GW.Nuveen's Glennmont Partners joined the project in 2022 by acquiring a 50% ownership stake.
