The investment plan was unveiled by Gerd Chrzanowski, General Partner of the Schwarz Group, and Manuela Schwesig, Minister-President of the Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania federal state.The partnership between the family-owned group and the federal state includes two key areas -- an infrastructure project with a data centre and the joint development of high-performance digital solutions for a sovereign public administration in the state.Under the plan, the data centre should be built in the industrial park of the municipality of Dummerstorf near Rostock and have a capacity of 240 MW by 2033, which will be used by companies in the Schwarz Group.Power your inbox with Renewables Now's 4 free newsletters. Browse and subscribe for free.Plans include the exclusive use of electricity from renewable energy in regular operation, the development of a district heating network and air cooling for the ecological efficiency of the data centre. The project is still in an early stage and the technical specifications have not been finalised.The group noted in a statement that a key factor in locating the data centre in northern Germany was the availability of large quantities of onshore and offshore wind energy and the proximity of a 380 kV power line to the Dummerstorf site."This demonstrates that focusing on renewable energy is the right approach. It is not only good for the environment and climate, but it also gives us a competitive advantage when it comes to the economy and jobs," commented Schwesig.Germany's two northernmost wind-swept states, Schleswig-Holstein and Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, had more than 14 GW of onshore wind parks in operation as of July 2026.
