The MKP in KwaZulu-Natal has its sight on eThekwini
The MK Party's decision to select "politically unknown" Zandile Hlophe-Mkhwanazi as its candidate for mayor of the eThekwini Municipality has been questioned by political analysts. They said this could be a ploy to manage tensions in the party while keeping the person earmarked for the post in the background until after the election.
Hlophe-Mkhwanazi was announced as the party's preferred candidate on Friday ahead of the 4 November 2026 local government elections.
Hlophe-Mkhwanazi is an academically accomplished individual. It has been reported that she holds a BSc Honours in Computational and Applied Mathematics, Business and Entrepreneurial Certifications, and a Social Entrepreneurship Programme (with Distinction) from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (2020).
She is recognised as the co-founder and CEO of GirlCode, a major South African non-profit organisation dedicated to empowering women and girls through tech education.
