A regional breakdown of Greece’s 2023 election results published by Kathimerini shows New Democracy and the opposition PASOK party drawing support from different geographic bases, with Attica driving the ruling party’s national showing and the periphery lifting PASOK.
The analysis of the results shows that Attica accounted for 33.3% of New Democracy’s overall vote share, compared with just 17.2% for PASOK.
In Central Macedonia, the pattern reversed: PASOK’s influence there, at 17.2%, exceeded New Democracy’s, which had 16.6%. Combined, Attica and northern Greece generated 58.4% of New Democracy’s total result.
In Crete, PASOK’s regional influence reached 10.7%, more than double New Democracy’s, which had 5.1%.
The data also traced a shift since 2007, when New Democracy drew far more strength from outside Attica.
