The Athens Stock Exchange closed lower Thursday, down from a nearly 17-year high, as investors locked in short-term profits.
The General Index closed at 2,667.04, down 0.74%, and very near the intraday low. Turnover was €263.75 million on 32,061,164 shares traded.
Blue chips declined 0.81%, mid-caps 0.82% and banks 1.27%. Overall, of the 123 traded stocks, 33 gained, 73 declined and 17 ended unchanged.
Topping the few blue-chip gainers were refiner Motor Oil (3.91%), construction group GEK Terna (0.81%) and Aegean Airlines (0.41%).
The biggest losses were recorded by Athens water and sewage company EYDAP (3.46%), Lamda Development (2.71%), Alpha Bank (2.58%), Coca-Cola HBC (2.38%) and Optima Bank (2.24%).
