Porsche’s Just Unveiled Its New ‘Entry-Level’ Race Car

Porsche wants to make sure that it keeps its race cars somewhat accessible.

The German marque has filled the vacant 718-sized hole in its customer race car lineup with the new 911 Challenge. The company says the model, which is based on the sports car’s street-legal GT3 variant, will serve as its new “entry-level” racer.

The 911 Challenge is aimed at Porsche customers who are looking to get into racing but were unable to snag an example of the discontinued 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport. From the 2027 season onward, the new model will be eligible for several one-make competitions worldwide, including the newly established Porsche Sprint Trophy Porsche Owners Club series. Its arrival also means that all four of the company’s current customer race cars (the GT3 R, Cup, and GT4 R are the other three) are based on its most iconic model.
