Traffic police recorded 115 violations during a special 24-hour operation targeting electric scooters across the greater Athens area.
From early Wednesday morning until early Thursday morning, police carried out 192 inspections, recording 78 violations for failing to wear a helmet, 13 for the absence or non-use of a speed limiter, six for running red lights and five for ignoring traffic signs.
Three violations involved carrying more passengers than permitted, while three concerned uninsured vehicles. Police also recorded one case each of riding on the sidewalk and failing to comply with a traffic officer’s signal.
In addition, nine riders were found to be under the influence of alcohol. One was arrested after recording more than 0.60 mg/l in a breathalyzer test, an offense classified as a misdemeanor.
