A two-kg silver bar allegedly lost by a trader while travelling by train was recovered by the police and handed over to the Commercial Taxes Department in Erode on Thursday (August 27, 2026).The trader, Syed Babu, 47, a silver merchant from Andhra Pradesh, was travelling in the general compartment of the Ahilyanagari Express from Vijayawada to Salem. He reportedly realised after alighting at Salem on Wednesday (August 26, 2026) that he had mistakenly taken another passenger’s bag. On checking the bag, he found that it did not belong to him and realised that his own bag, containing the silver bar, was missing. He immediately alerted the railway authorities at Salem and lodged a complaint.The police subsequently alerted its counterparts in Erode. The police team recovered the bag from the train when it arrived at Erode Railway Station and found the silver bar inside. As Mr. Babu could not produce the required documents for the silver, it was handed over to officials of the Commercial Taxes Department in Erode for further verification.
