The Railway Police seized 30 kg of banned tobacco products from an unattended bag found in a train at the Erode railway station on Wednesday (June 17, 2026).According to the police, personnel were conducting routine checks in trains halting at the station to prevent the transportation of prohibited substances and other illegal items. During the inspection at 8.50 a.m., they found an unattended bag at an unreserved coach in Train No. 22504 Vivek Express, which operates between Dibrugarh and Kanniyakumari. In the bag, the police found 30 kg of banned gutkha and the contraband was seized.The Railway Police said efforts were under way to identify the person who had brought the bag into the train and trace the intended recipient.
