The Elephant Gate Police arrested three persons for allegedly cheating two silver traders of 45.5 kg silver bullion.

According to the police, Dileep Kumar, 44, a resident of Chinna Naicken Street in Sowcarpet, is engaged in the silver business. He used to get silver items manufactured through Murugan, who ran a silver workshop in Vyasarpadi. In August 2024, Dileep Kumar had given 30.5 kg of silver bullion to Murugan to make silver articles. Similarly, another trader, Asif, had given 15 kg of silver bullion.

In September 2024, Murugan passed away. Following this, when Dileep Kumar and Asif approached Murugan’s wife Dhanalakshmi, his brother Satish Kumar, and Dhanalakshmi’s father Vedachalam — who were managing the workshop —seeking return of their silver, the trio allegedly kept delaying the matter. Later, they reportedly refused to return either the finished silver items or the bullion and allegedly threatened them.

Complaint filed

Based on a complaint filed by Dileep Kumar at Elephant Gate Police Station, the police arrested Dhanalakshmi, 31, of Pulianthope, Satish Kumar, 39, of Pulianthope, and Vedachalam, 61, of Pattalam.
