Three men were arrested for allegedly robbing a a gold testing centre of a 1.4-kg gold bar on Thursday. The police have recovered the stolen gold bar from the accused.Ankit Dilip, 26, who resides on Mint Street in Elephant Gate, runs a gold and silver testing centre in the locality. According to the police, the incident took place on Wednesday evening when three men entered the shop, posing as customers. They allegedly threatened Ankit with a machete and demanded that he hand over the valuables to them. The trio then allegedly struck him on the head with the weapon, snatched the gold bar kept in his bag, and fled the scene.On receiving information, the Elephant Gate police rushed to the spot. One of the suspects attempted to escape on seeing the police but collided with an oncoming motorcycle and fell. He was immediately apprehended, while the remaining two escaped with the stolen gold bar.During interrogation, the arrested suspect was identified as Arumugam, alias Arun, 22, a resident of the same locality. Based on his confession, the police identified his alleged accomplices as Lokesh, 23, and Heram, alias Raman, 24.Acting on Arun’s information, the police tracked down Lokesh and Heram, who were hiding in the Housing Board quarters near the Elephant Gate water tank, and arrested them on Thursday morning.
