A new Fire and Rescue Services station and the District Fire Officer’s office, constructed at a cost of ₹6.08 crore at Shevapet, were inaugurated on Thursday (August 27, 2026).Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay inaugurated the facilities through videoconferencing from the Secretariat in Chennai. The buildings were constructed by the Tamil Nadu Police Housing Corporation.Transport Minister A. Vijay Tamilan Parthiban participated in the inaugural function and lit the traditional lamp. He later inspected the station’s operations, firefighting and rescue equipment, tools and fire tenders.The station is housed on the ground and first floors of the building, covering about 12,336 sq. ft., while the District Fire Officer’s office occupies the second floor with an area of about 8,362 sq. ft. The facility has rooms for the Station Officer and Transport Station Officer, rest rooms for firefighters, separate toilets for men, women and persons with disabilities, a conference hall, record room and store room. It is equipped with a lift, generator and lightning arrester.Salem Regional Deputy Director of Fire and Rescue Services S. Kalyanakumar, District Fire Officer R.
