Lithuania’s embassy in India has received information that a Lithuanian citizen may have been at a border crossing between Nepal and Tibet with a group of pilgrims when flash floods struck the area Wednesday.
“Contact with the citizen has not been established. No official information about a Lithuanian citizen has been received from Nepalese authorities,” Lithuania’s Foreign Ministry told BNS on Thursday.
The embassy is continuing to maintain contact with Lithuanians in Nepal and with an ashram in India, the ministry said.
Rescue teams were searching Thursday for more than 1,000 people reported missing near the Nepal-Tibet border after flash floods and landslides killed at least 165 people and swept away entire villages.
Nepal’s disaster management agency said 823 people remained missing Thursday, including at least 579 tourists, both Nepalese and foreign nationals. Nepalese police said they had recovered 162 bodies.
