The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has dismissed reports circulating on social media alleging that young residents in the Nyanya area of Abuja have been selling their kidneys for money.
The command described the reports as false, stressing that it had neither received nor confirmed any complaint or intelligence relating to the alleged sale of human kidneys in Nyanya or surrounding areas.
Josephine Adeh, Command’s Public Relations Officer, made the clarification in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.
It said the clarification became necessary following the circulation of social media publications claiming that the FCT Police Command had confirmed reports of young people in Nyanya selling their kidneys to raise money.
According to the statement, the reports further alleged that an unidentified agent operating in the Mararaba area of neighbouring Nasarawa State was purchasing the kidneys from the affected youths.
