Deputy Mayor Eddie Andrews has defended the amendment to the City's Municipal Planning Amendment By-law amid criticism from developers.
The Western Cape Property Development Forum (WCPDF) said the amendment to the by-law which requires notification of decisions on building plans approval to the public via the municipal website risked adding another layer of administration to an already complex development approval process.
“This will not create an undue burden on the City’s resources or even require new resources, and it is the council’s opinion that the benefits of these amendments towards fair process outweigh any impact it may have on its resources,” WCPDF chairperson Deon van Zyl said.
The amendment was approved last Thursday and still needs to be promulgated with an effective date by Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis.
